At an awards ceremony, of over 650 leading UK and Europe’s grounds experts, held at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham on 31 October, Stanningley SARLC were announced winner of a national award in recognition of the outstanding condition of the playing surface.
The playing surface enables wider use in the Rugby League and Local Community. This covers the Club, Leeds Rhinos, RFL, BARLA, Schools, Universities, Armed Services, NHS and many other local causes.
The award represents the first time an amateur Rugby League club had been nominated and subsequently won at the IOG Industry Awards, which were in the 10th year.
This is a tribute to the numerous hours put in by our grounds man, Dan Connor and the team of volunteer helpers, which in 2018 saw the installation of a state of the art Hunter Pop up Irrigation System costing £30,000. The majority of the funding came from the hard work and support of our members and a small grant arranged by our local Councillors.
Going forward in future years, the investment in the playing surface will enable us to continue our Rugby League and Community support, to further develop our great game.
